It made its global debut at the New York Motor Show back in March this year, and its European debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June, and now everyone is talking about the stunning new Mazda MX-5 RF. Designed to increase cabin comfort and refine the ride without compromising on performance, Nobuhiro Yamamoto, the Mazda MX-5 Programme Manager, said his team wanted to break with "traditional ways of thinking... to create something new" when developing the latest model of the world's bestselling two seater sports car.
Their goal was to design a convertible with "gorgeous fastback lines when the roof is closed and an exhilarating open-air feeling when open", and they haven't disappointed. The 'Retractable Fastback' builds on the thinking behind the retractable hardtop boasted by the previous generation Mazda, and the result is a beautiful sports car with a unique appearance.
Three roof sections, plus a rear screen, comprise the RF's retractable hardtop. Upon lowering the roof, the rear section remains in place while the front and middle are stored together. A cabin-type feel is created that offers the best of both worlds: the sense of freedom that comes with an open top, and the security of an enclosed cabin. This Mazda truly does redefine the concept of open top.
The RF measures the same in width, length and wheelbase as the convertible, although the roof height has increased by 5mm. It features one of the fastest fully automated hardtops available at the moment, and can open when the car is moving up to 6mph. Machine Grey was the colour of choice in order to emphasise Mazda's KODO: Soul of Motion exterior, and it adds to the vehicle's dramatic appearance.
The Mazda MX-5 RF is available from MKG3000 at the end of this year. Call 02085389377 to reserve your car.
