Auto Express, the UK’s most popular weekly motoring magazine, has awarded their Best Roadster accolade to the new Mazda MX-5 for the second year in succession – another addition to the MX-5’s collection of prizes this year, which also includes 2016 Car of the Year, 2016 UK Car of the Year and 2016 Japanese Car of the Year.
The latest MX-5 is the lightest since the original, and whilst it’s shorter and lower than previous versions, it’s actually slightly wider with smaller overhangs, giving it a lower centre of gravity and more dynamic proportions. Put simply, the new Mazda MX-5 is designed with pleasure in mind – it’s an absolute joy to drive, boasts perfect weight distribution and is packed with more technology than ever before, cementing Mazda’s reputation as the world’s number one affordable sports car manufacturer.
It’s not just the MX-5 that has picked up awards, either – the SKYACTIV technology it makes use of under the hood has also scooped numerous prizes, and when combining the hyper-efficient engine with a lightweight chassis, it’s easy to see why the car is a favourite with driving enthusiasts in the UK and beyond. With the latest MX-5, Mazda has built up a reputation for agility, driver enjoyment, safety and refinement.
Accepted with grace
When collecting the award from Auto Express at a recent ceremony, Mazda’s UK managing director Jeremy Thomson said the firm was "thrilled" with the reception both the media and customers had given the latest MX-5 model, adding that it was a "definitive example" of how the Mazda philosophy to combine stylish, powerful and easy-to-drive cars which make use of cutting edge technology is a winning formula for petrol heads, with over 120,000 MX-5s having been purchased in the last quarter of a century.
Of course, the real beauty of the MX-5 is that the classics never go out of style – and opting for a used Mazda can mean getting your hands on an incredible vehicle at a fraction of the cost of a brand new model.
