Earlier this month week, the much anticipated nominations for this year’s World Car Awards were revealed, and Mazda are the only manufacturer to be in the running for four top accolades.
The all-new Mazda MX-5 and the all-new Mazda CX-3 have been named as finalists in the much coveted World Car of the Year category. Both cars are also finalists in the World Car Design of the Year, a first for the awards.
The awards, which will take place at the New York International Motor Show on the 24th March, recognise the best automotive creations of the last 12 months. Previous winners have included the Ford Mustang, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and the BMW 3 Series. The awards are judged by a panel of leading automotive journalists from around the world, who will be looking at various factors in their decisions, including safety, efficiency, style and design.
The new Mazda MX-5 made its debut at the LA Motor Show last year and has already received a number of decorations. The iconic sports car was recently named Auto Express Roadster of the Year, and last month What Car named it their Best Convertible of 2016. The Mazda MK-5 comes with a range of high performing petrol engines. The new MX-5 has similar styling to the much loved original series but is more aerodynamic, which is why it has been nominated for Design of the Year.
Mazda’s newly designed CX-3 crossover was also launched last year and has already won rave reviews for its design and range of equipment. In addition to a range of petrol and diesel engines, the CX-3 also features a range of innovative in-car technologies, such as MZD-Connect with a 7-inch colour touch screen. The CX-3 also features Mazda’s own Skyactiv Technology, which helps improve performance and efficiency.
