When it comes to the supermini class, you could do a lot worse than choose a Mazda 2, especially considering the brand new models we stock right here at our Twickenham dealership.
The new shape for 2016 gives the Mazda 2 a slightly more fierce look than the previous design, and the vehicle is available in many different specs, including the TS, TS2, SE, Tamura, Sport, Sport Venture and Takuya.
The best things come in small packages, and that's certainly true with this car which, don't forget, took home the Car of the Year accolade with an earlier model in 2008. The 'impressive supermini' (Mazda's words!) is stylish, filled with technology and economical, meaning it packs a punch when compared to others in its field, such as the Ford Fiesta.
Sporty and edgy...
“We wanted something that was a bit more sporty and edgy,” Mazda’s Chief of Design for European operations, Peter Birtwhistle, said, when the comparison with the Fiesta was made. “We wanted a car that would appeal to the younger market.”
The Mazda is designed for an audience of female drivers aged between 20 and 30 and it may be a global car, but it’s currently more popular in Asia than Europe (we hope to change this, of course!)
Options for the new Mazda 2
There are now four engine options to choose from: two types of a 1.3-litre petrol engines with different outputs, keeping it under the 120g/km CO2 emission barrier; a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a four-speed automatic gearbox, and a 1.6-litre diesel with low emissions is now also available, instead of the previous 1.4-litre diesel.
