Now that’s Zoom-Zoom.   New Mazda RX8 Performance Revolution - The revolutionary heart that beats inside the Mazda RX8 began life nearly 80 years ago when a young man, Felix Wankel, had a dream that dared to challenge conventional wisdom. In 1961, Mazda took up the vision and launched a massive development programme into the rotary engine. From that day forward, Mazda has become the Acknowledged world leader in rotary engine technology, culminating in the innovative RENESIS engine, which marks the latest chapter of the Mazda rotary engine story. Unlike a conventional piston engine, the New Mazda RX8’s rotary engine has no cylinders, pistons or valves. Instead, two triangular-shaped rotors spin within their oval housings around a common output shaft. As combustion occurs, each rotor instantly turns, and the revs increase rapidly with virtually no vibration. And with only three main moving parts, compared to a minimum of 40 in a piston engine, power delivery is incredibly smooth and refined. With this level of ingenuity, it’s no wonder the Mazda RX-8 has won the International Engine of the Year award two years in a row. There are two RENESIS engines to choose from: the potent 192ps (141kW) engine with a 5-speed manual transmission; and the exceptional 231ps (170kW) engine, coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission. Two choices, one spirit

Driving your Mazda RX-8 will inspire you with complete confidence. At the heart of the Mazda RX-8 lies the unique RENESIS rotary engine.

When you buy the new Mazda RX-8, you`ll be able to choose from two variations of the RENESIS powertrain: The high power specification, producing 231ps and the standard power unit producing 192ps. Both offer breathtaking performance with exceptional handling and road holding.

The RENESIS engine is uncommonly compact, which provides an ideal mounting position for the entire powertrain - low and behind the front axle. This low centre of gravity and unique powertrain location means that the Mazda RX-8 has near perfect 50/50 weight distribution - giving it exceptional agility and responsiveness.

As well as the entire powertrain being mounted behind the front axle, the fuel tank is mounted in front of the rear axle. This concentrates the weight mass near the theoretical yaw axis and greatly contributes to the feeling of oneness between the Mazda RX-8 and the driver. The result is the thrilling drive of a classic sports car.

Precision control handling is provided by the newly developed double wishbone front suspension. A new multi-link rear suspension provides lateral stiffness for excellent handling and response while providing longitudinal compliance for outstanding stability, ride comfort and low road noise.

Finally the Dynamic Stability Control will both enhance your driving and act as an active safety feature. It monitors your wheel speeds, steering angles, braking function and yaw rate and applies brake force accordingly to one or more wheels, helping to reduce engine output and prevent skids.

Unique reassurance

The Mazda RX-8 is a car with exceptional safety standards. A wide range of safety features and the unique centre-opening freestyle door configuration offer advanced protection in the event of an accident.

Essential to the Mazda RX-8`s freestyle door system is a standard of side impact safety comparable with the typical four-door sedan. Extensive reinforcement of the inside of the rear doors and significantly improved body side strength achieves world-class safety performance.

Front driver and passenger SRS airbags are featured as well as curtain and side airbags. The car also has an intrusion minimising brake pedal to help reduce foot and leg injuries in a frontal collision. Pedestrian safety is also considered with the aluminium hood having a cone-type construction to absorb and cushion impacts in the event of a car-pedestrian accident. And active safety is greatly enhanced with large diameter disc brakes giving ample stopping power when stopping suddenly. You and your passengers have fantastic all-round protection.
